the trials and tribulations of our hometown hero, highs and lows of the day

Hi-low there

6:33 PM. I am at Jokerest Park (I see you in the sky, S! Creep! ;)) and the nightly Picke Ball competitions rave on. Some new cute women dawn the courts this eve – one I am calling Bright White and another Grayback. Bright White sports a white tank top and white skirt, platinum blonde hair. Grayback has a similar outfit, black front to tank top, gray back, and gray skirt.

Of course, they don't know I see them. Game-focused and fueled by determination, the figurine on the bench (me) perched back in the park is mostly ignored, faintly aromatic of cigarettes and cut grass.

The Anchor House shelter I had planned for is delayed. The unit coming available was made NOT available when it's occupant changed his mind :/

It is what it is. I consolidated and got a lightweight sleeping bag, some longjohn bottoms, and a large zipper bag to put them in. Other cold weather gear is in this pouch, as well. I will use this as a “cache” at the Death Park (cemetery) that I can retrieve at night on arrival, set up fast camp, sleep, break down, re-stash the cache, and move out.

The drawstring backpack stays on me at all times. A different, more efficient, and slightly larger pack will be used for daily/all-day use once I have $10 to spend on Amazon. Identical to the REI “pack bag” (a limited time item on their site) this newer pack will have similar room and features. Also more compartmentalization.

Now, sleep deprived but awake on iced coffee, I observe the cars cruising in the not so distant horizon, Pickle Ballers shouting and cheering their wins, skirts airbourne with the steady breeze. I settle back as the pipe burns slow with High Card tobacco, thinking of the weeks appointments – dental, birth certificate being printed (the original was stolen with the REI pack on Day 2 of being here), bloodwork, et al.

The locusts and sunset colors let loose on the landscape, cooling temps in their wake. The cold will take the locusts, my Off bug spray will remain tucked away, and a chilly jaunt across town to “the resting place” will be had around 10:30.

To the critters of night and the dawns of new tomorrows
